I was asked by the kind folk at Atalanta to illustrate Pharoah Sanders, the excellent Saxophone jazz musician, for this years Glasgow Jazz Festival. I rarely get to do these sort of commissions all the portrait illustrations I do tend to be personal projects only, so this will be for others eyes too! I kept the colour palette limited to tie in with the magenta in the Jazz Fest logo, all the white lines for his beard and hat (he's had some awesome beards in his time) were drawn in dip pen, line work was reduced to a minimum to keep it bold and graphic. The final piece will be a fold out leaflet measuring 530mm x 310mm with details of the festival on the other side. It follows young Matt and Veronique, two children on their exchange to France and England and they end up investigating a mystery in each book. The first book is The Mystery of the Missing Finger where an expensive painting is stolen from a manor house and they must find out the masked villain, its the Butler, oh no its isn't! The second book is The Mystery of the Poisoned Pudding when a fat food critic is poisoned at Veroniques fathers restaurant its down to the children to find out who and why they did it.
